Amala’s house in Puducherry is a single room, Fahad’s house has another owner
Thiruvananthapuram: The motor vehicles department officials were baffled when they found out the methods used by film stars and businessmen to evade taxes on their luxury cars.
Right from insurance policies to GST registration, they have used every trick in their bags to register their vehicles in Puducherry and save tax.
In case of actor Amala Paul, as per registration details of her vehicle, her house address is House no. 6, St Theresa’s Street, Thilaspet, Puducherry. She has also given an affidavit to the motor vehicles department that she has been living in the house for the past one year.
The officers from the department who reached Puducherry to inquire about the apartment where Amala Pual lives where shown a single room on the terrace of a three-storey building by its owner. It doesn’t even have a washroom.
She had submitted an insurance policy document to show that she is currently living in Puducherry. For insurance, she took a Rs 1 lakh policy, paid Rs 860 as premium and became a Puducherry resident!
Most of the people who have taken the Puducherry route to evade tax had relied on insurance policies to prove that they are residents of the state. They usually take a policy for Rs 1 lakh and pay the premium once. Others have relied on GST registration details to prove that they are Puducherry residents.
